The raid was ordered by Janet Reno, Attorney General, and featured 20-40 armed INS/BORDER PATROL agents as well as other Federal agents, tear gas, and a morning raid complete with battering ram and armed "police state" tactics.

Donato Dalrymple is held back by government officials after they removed Elian Gonzalez from the home of his Miami relatives. Dalrymple was one of the fishermen who rescued Elian off the Florida coast five months ago, and tried to hide Elian in a closet when federal officials entered the home.
