Probably unlawful bond

The company, that brought me here, insisted me to sign promissory note for 25,000$, if I resign from them during 2-year period. I work as a contractor at some customer software company, the contract is signed between my company and this customer company. Additionally, my company insisted me to sign another document, according to which I have to pay them a sum equal to 1-year profit which they will lose, if I accept direct offer from the customer company, where I work as consultant-contractor on CORP-TO-CORP basis. Now the customer company gave me really good offer. Does this document break the law? Or is there a way to avoid paying such large money to my company?
