[1] Note: For FY97, the INS recorded 65,000 H-1B workers on September 1, 1997. During the period September 2, 1997 through September 30, 1997, the INS recorded a total of 5,099 H-1B workers whose employment was authorized to commence on October 1, 1997. According, this 5,099 figure was applied to the fiscal year 1998 limit of 65,000.

[2] Note: For FY98, the INS recorded 65,000 H-1B workers on May 11, 1998. During the period May 12, 1998 through September 30, 1998, the INS recorded a total of 19,431 H-1B workers whose employment was authorized to commence on October 1, 1998. Accordingly, this 19,431 figure will be applied to the fiscal year 1999 limit of 115,000. The 19,431 figure appears in the totals for October 1998.

[3] Note: As of 12/31/98 including roll-over

The number of H-1B workers recorded during the October 1, 1998 to October 31, 1998 is an unadjusted total number of aliens classified as initial H-1B workers. Pursuant to the Administrative Procedure Act, the INS will publish for notice and comment a proposal describing those instances in which an H-1B worker will be recorded against the annual cap.

Visas issued - Number of H-1B visa issued by the U.S. Department of State

Admissions - Number of H-1B nonimmigrants admitted during the year. May include multiple arrivals of the same individual and persons issued visas in previous years.
