LCA Automated Fax Back System

The LCA system is functioning, but still experiencing problems. DOL staff are processing LCAs received on 7-7-99; 1852 LCAs are pending. DOL hopes to be current on Monday, e.g. staff will be processing LCAs received that day.

The problem involves system difficulties with processing and transmitting timeframes. An inordinate amount of time is required to complete the process, e.g. staff may process 1000 cases in a day; however, only about 450-500 get transmitted. We do not have a solution to the problem which is also occurring in Region III at this time, but it has been raised with the contractor and vendors.

Another issue which has been raised is our inability to correct inadvertent/erroneous denials. We have requested that a program be written which will allow us to change a final determination as appropriate. It is doubtful that this will be available in the near future, but, hopefully, by the time final regulations are published.
