Requests for Expeditious Handling

Requests for expeditious handling will be considered under the following circumstances:

1. When the benefit is needed in a time frame that is less than our normal processing time and
   
   
2. When that short time frame was not caused by less than diligent application procedures on the part of the applicant or petitioner or when there is a great humanitarian basis to consider.

Requests that do not meet these criteria will not be granted and delayed processing will inevitably result.

To request an expedite, state "EXPEDITE REQUEST" (in BIG, BOLD letters) in the heading of your or, better yet, your client's, letter requesting the expedite. Also note clearly and in BIG BOLD letters on your envelope, "EXPEDITE REQUEST." Make sure your or your client's letter explains not only the need for an expedite, but also the basis or rationale for your client's expedite request.
