The number to call from the U.S. in 1-900-225-5520. Calls are charged to the caller at the rate of US$1.00 (one dollar) per minute, with a maximum charge of $20.00. This number is only accessible from the U.S.

The number to call from Mexico is 01-900-849-7474. Calls are charged to the caller at the rate of Mexico $10.00 (ten pesos) per minute, with a maximum charge of $200.00 pesos. This number is only accessible from Mexico.

Immigrant visa applicants are allowed into Consulate compounds at 7:00a.m. for those with 8:00 a.m. appointments, 9:45a.m. for those with 10:00am appointments, and 11:15a.m. for those with 11:30a.m. appointments.

Refusal cases from previous days are taken between 8:00a.m. and 10:00a.m. Monday through Friday.

MAKING APPOINTMENTS FOR NONIMMIGRANT VISA INTERVIEWS

"Please note, landed immigrants in Canada who are citizens of British Commonwealth Countries or the Republic of Ireland may qualify to apply for their visa directly at the port of entry with U.S. Immigration and Naturalization.

All other NIV applicants require an appointment to apply for a U.S. visa at the American Consulate General in Tijuana. Applicants are advised that having a visa appointment does not guarantee issuance of a visa.

The applicant must pay the application fee in advance at a branch of the Banco Banamex, in pesos (Mexican Currency). The bank will issue a receipt which must be presented at the time of the visa interview.

If going to the U.S. for a short visit, you may qualify under the Visa Waiver Pilot Program, which allows citizens of certain countries to enter the U.S. without getting a visitor visa.

To make an appointment you must call a pay-per-minute phone service or pay a flat fee using the Internet. The service is available between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday.

(Note: some offices, homes, and all pay phones are set to block calls to 900 numbers. In these situations, you will need to charge the call to your credit card by dialing 1-888-840-0032.)

THE SYSTEM:

The appointment system will prompt you to enter the numbers only of the main applicant's passport number. The system assigns a reference number which is used in all future transactions (please write it down!).

Once an appointment has been reserved, it must be confirmed with an operator the some day before 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time. (This can be done by staying on the line after the appointment has been reserved)

CANCELLATION:

Please note if for any reason you are unable to attend your confirmed appointment, you must cancel it within 48 hours of the appointment date. Appointments may be cancelled on the toll free 1-888-611-6676 cancellation line available from both Canada and the United States. Appointments cannot be reserved on this line.
